Japan plans to invite Zelensky to G7 summit in Hiroshima

The authorities of Japan, which chairs the G7 this year, plan to invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the G7 summit in Hiroshima on May 19-21. This is written by the Japanese edition of Nikkei.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said he would invite Zelensky to be able to hear directly about the current situation in Ukraine. He also plans to discuss food and energy security issues with the Ukrainian president as a result of Russia’s military intervention.

For Tokyo, coordinating the G7’s actions on Ukraine is an important step in preparing for a possible conflict over Taiwan, in which Japan could be drawn into, the newspaper writes. The Japanese authorities believe that in the event of a conflict between the EU and the United States, it is necessary to give a prompt and tough response to China, as happened after the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
