People’s Power called on the United States’ Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan to deny or confirm Ukrainian diplomat Andrii Kasianov’s claims on an arms exchange request between his country, the US and Georgia.
“Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires in Georgia Andrii Kasianov voiced a very specific and clear accusation against the USA regarding the involvement of our country in military actions - we ask the Ambassador to deny or confirm the statement of the representative of Ukraine and provide information to both the Georgian and the international community!
If Kelly Degnan does not respond to our request, society will consider that silence is a sign of consent.
The US Embassy and Ambassador have been asked for months to clearly distance themselves from the interest of dragging Georgia into war, but unfortunately, this has not happened”, - said Guram Macharashvili, a member of the People’s Power.
The statement followed an article by the Charge d’affaires of Ukraine to Georgia, which said Ukrainian authorities had agreed with Washington a swap that would see Georgia hand over the US-made Javelin anti-tank systems purchased for Georgian Defence Forces over the recent years to Ukraine, to aid its defence from the ongoing Russian invasion, and receive newer systems from the US in return. Kasianov also said the Georgian side had rejected the deal.
