The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of the operative-search measures and investigative activities carried out in recent period, have seized illegal firearms and ammunition in Tbilisi and regions of the country, 10 people have been arrested, and 2 exposed.

As a result of jointly conducted measures, the employees of the Main Investigation Division and the Detectives Main Division of Tbilisi Police Department at different times detained 2 persons convicted in past - G.U. (DoB 1984) and U. Ch. (DoB 1984) in Tbilisi. Law enforcement officers, based on the judge’s ruling, as a result of the search conducted in G.U’s residence, seized a firearm, a magazine and 3 cartridges as evidence. As a result of the personal search of U.Ch’s and his vehicle, the police seized a rifle, 29 cartridges and narcotics as evidence.

Employees of Vake-Saburtalo main division of Tbilisi Police Department at different times arrested N.N. (DoB 1991), A.A. (DoB 1970) and previously convicted A.M. (DoB 1968).

As a result of the personal search of N.N. in Tbilisi, the law enforcement officers seized a firearm, a magazine and 4 cartridges as evidence. During the search of A.A’s apartment, a firearm, a magazine and 2 cartridges were also seized. As a result of the search of A.M.’s residence, the police detected a firearm, 8 cartridges and narcotics.

The employees of Samegrelo Zemo-Svaneti police department charged two persons with illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms: Z.K. (DoB 1973) and V.B. (DoB 1995). Law enforcers also exposed two persons - D.A. (DoB 1990) and V.A. (DoB1963).

As a result of the search of their residential and workplaces, the law enforcement officers seized various types of firearms and ammunition: automatic firearm, revolvers, pistol, 6 rifles, 18 cartridges and 2 magazines.

Tianeti District Division under Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department, as a result of operational measures and investigative actions, arrested M.C. (DoB 1974) on charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition. Law enforcement officers, during the search of the house of the detainee, seized an “AKS” automatic firearm, a magazine and 30 cartridges as evidence.

The employees of Oni district division of Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti police department detained, I.B. (DoB 1987). Police, during the search of the house of the accused person, seized an automatic firearm and a magazine as evidence.

The employees of Ozurgeti District Division of Guria Police Department detained previously convicted G.Ch (DoB 1970). He was arrested for illegal purchase and possession of firearms. During the search of the house of the detainee, a pistol and a magazine were seized as evidence.

The committed crimes envision up to 7 years of imprisonment.

The investigation into the facts of illegal purchase-storage-carrying of firearms and ammunition and illegal purchase-storage of narcotic drugs is being conducted under Article 236, III and IV Parts, as well as Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
