Georgia has done its best to get the status of a candidate country of the European Union and to start negotiations regarding membership. Such a statement made today the Chairman of the Parliament.
“Our country has done its best in order to make progress in terms of getting closer to the European Union, to get the status and not only, and also to open negotiations regarding the membership.
Now the ball is in the court of the EU. Everything has been done by us. If we take and compare any candidate country and look at the issue from this point of view, of course, Georgia is not yet ready to be a member of the EU, but we are only talking about candidacy.
If we compare with other candidate countries, Georgia deserves to be at the same stage of rapprochement with the EU as the candidate countries. So, now the ball is in the court of the EU, and in fact, today the EU must make a decision on how it sees its own future in this region, how it sees its own future in relation to Georgia”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
