Irakli Garibashvili meets Oliver Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement

Within the scope of his visit to Brussels, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Oliver Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister provided Oliver Várhelyi with detailed information on the positive dynamic of the implementation of the European Commission’s 12 priorities by Georgia, also on the state’s efforts to fully implement the European Union’s recommendations. Irakli Garibashvili emphasized the historic decision to recognize the country’s European perspective and pointed out the strategic importance of granting a candidate country’s status to Georgia at the end of this year.

Special emphasis at the meetings was placed on Black Sea region connectivity initiatives and opportunities to deepen the transport, energy, and infrastructural ties between Georgia and the EU in this regard.

The parties also spoke about the security situation in the region. As the Prime Minister noted, Georgia supports ensuring peace and stability in the region.
