We see an interest in artificially creating a crisis in the Central Election Commission, that’s why we need to override the veto - Kobakhidze

We see an interest in artificially creating a crisis in the Central Election Commission, that’s why we need to override the veto, said the Chairman of Georgian Dream, while commenting the decision of President, who vetoed the amendments to the Election Code.

“We will need to override the veto in all cases, including due to technical reasons. Changes in the regulations related to this procedure have already been implemented. Therefore, if the veto is not overridden, there will be no procedure by which the Central Election Commission [CEC] Chairman and members can be elected. This is for a technical reason, however, the main thing is that in this case we see the interest of sabotage. The interest of artificially creating an institutional crisis in the CEC.

When the relevant point was included in the April 19 agreement, the purpose of that point was exactly this. The purpose was to create an institutional crisis in the CEC. That is why we did not sign the first version and only signed the revised version. Now we see exactly the same interest in artificially creating a crisis in the CEC. That is why we need to override the veto.

Consultations will continue, however, at this stage, the veto should be overridden.

After that, if there are any arguments, requests for consultations and so on, we are ready for these consultations. As for the April 19 agreement, even the President’s veto does not correspond to the content of the April 19 agreement. Therefore, the agreement of April 19 is only an excuse.

Of course, the April 19 agreement has no value for us. First, because it has already been cancelled, it has no political weight, and second, you remember that the agreement of April 19 was the result of sabotage. Therefore, the April 19 agreement will not have any value for us either from the political or moral point of view.

Moreover, taking into account these processes, we said that in the future we will never again enter into such negotiations and we will never make an agreement like the April 19 agreement”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
