The statement is completely unacceptable for me personally, because not a single evidence is given here, said the Minister of Justice, while commenting the statement of the President of Ukraine regarding Mikheil Saakashvili.
“When it comes to the fact that someone is being tortured in Georgia, naturally, I will never agree with all of this. If human rights are protected anywhere in this region, especially in penitentiary institutions, Georgia is definitely the leader here.
It will be very interesting to see what our dear society thinks about what torture is. That a person needs treatment and is in one of the best clinics, we offer food, we constantly encourage him to get proper treatment and food from doctors - is this torture? He had 2 300 visitors, is it torture?
No matter who he is, no matter which political official he is and which state he represents, we as a state have dignity, we know for sure that we protect human rights, including at a very high level in penitentiary institutions, and we will not accept such statement from anyone.
Of course, this is very sad, especially in light of the fact that Georgia stands by the Ukrainian people in absolutely every crisis situation. We must respond to the fact that our diplomats, at the cost of their own lives, were in Kyiv until the last minute, even when Kyiv was being bombed, and this is categorically unacceptable for us”, - said Rati Bregadze.
