Due to the lack of quorum, the extraordinary session of the Parliament couldn’t take place

Because of the lack of quorum, the extraordinary session of the Parliament couldn’t take place.

The quorum was not reached and the session could not be opened, because only 65 MPs registered. The MPs were due to discuss amendments to the Defence Code.

“Our colleagues from opposition know for sure that there are not enough MPs in Georgia that only a majority can create a quorum today. Our colleagues are also at the Francophonie event.

We will not be able to try to form a quorum by majority alone. At the time, our esteemed colleagues called it sabotage. It is good that it was acknowledged that this was a parliamentary tool and that this tool was used.

When our colleagues who are outside the country will arrive from abroad and when the Francophonie events are over - be it the end of July or August, you will come and work. Now did it to yourself. If you were begging for vacations, you won"t have a vacation.

When we say it and gather, then you will come, work and understand what parliamentary activity is. If you understood it at least a little, it’s good”, - explained Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Chairman of the Georgian Dream faction, the failure of the session.

Parliament Speaker criticized opposition MPs by saying: “When the majority did not undergo registration, you protested, and now you legitimized this and confirmed that this is part of the parliamentary life”.

Iago Khvichia, a member of the Girchi party said “The Defence Law is so immoral before the Georgian army and youth that we have full moral legitimization to do our best to prevent the Georgian Dream from adopting it”.
