Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia held and led an Executive Government Meeting today. Members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Georgia considered 5 agenda items.
A project was discussed, according to which every child suffering with cancer will have an opportunity to get diagnostic and medical treatment with state funding at leading healthcare facilities of Turkey, Israel and Spain – apart from Georgia. Project is budgeted at around 30 MLN GEL.
High-technology healthcare facilities complying to modern standards and having international accreditation were selected on the grounds of a preliminary market study to act as overseas service providers. A single space offers a full spectrum of services. Patients will be able to get high-quality, high-tech healthcare services within the scope of the project, including proton therapy, which is the most recent development in modern medicine for treating solid cancers of certain types. When discussing the matter, access to quality cancer treatment services was highlighted, especially in the early age of childhood, as it is a priority of the state.
Agreements on cooperation between the Ministry of Health and medical treatment service providers will be concluded by the end of the month. Thereafter children with a diagnosis of cancer will get the required services both in Georgia and overseas – in Spain, Israel and Turkey.
Program aiming at the overseas medical treatment of patients aged under 18 will be a transitional stage until such services get well-established in Georgia and until a State Center of Child Oncology gets created with state-of-the-art standards and equipped with high technology machinery to be accessible and affordable with a full spectrum of healthcare service. The Ministry of Health is actively working towards this end.
