The decision of the Bucharest summit that both countries will definitely become NATO members remains in force. Such a statement made today the Chairman of Georgian Dream, while speaking about the NATO summit in Vilnius.
“Nobody knew yesterday when and how Georgia and Ukraine would become NATO members, and the situation is the same after yesterday’s Communiqué, which means that the status quo has been maintained.
The decision of the Bucharest summit that both countries will definitely become NATO members remains in force, although there was no specifics beyond that, which is understandable. Attitudes were directly reflected in this document, including in relation to Russia.
NATO has a pragmatic policy towards Russia. This document directly states that confrontation with Russia is not NATO’s desire, and the expression of this attitude is that we do not have any news, the status quo is maintained.
The Bucharest summit status quo is maintained and the same applies to Ukraine. The status quo has been maintained for Georgia and Ukraine, which means that neither Georgia nor Ukraine has progressed. Therefore, we are not talking about progress, there is no progress.
Three conditions were set for Ukraine to join NATO. The first condition is to win the war, the second condition is to fulfill the requirements related to the reforms and the third condition is to have a full consensus among NATO members. If at least one of these three conditions is not met, in such a case, Ukraine cannot become a member of Alliance”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
