The Speaker of the Parliament, accompanied by MPs attended the civil memorial service of the persons perished amid the armed conflict in Abkhazia and paid tribute to commemoration.
“This is the day, which revives our memories of war and makes us reconsider the significance of the protection of our statehood, our sovereignty and territorial integrity since it is the sacred idea that these people sacrificed their lives for. Thus, our generation has assumed the duty to value the blood shed by them and safeguard the sovereignty and restoration of territorial integrity of our country”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
The civil memorial service was held in Sameba (Trinity) Cathedral. The identified cadavers of 13 persons missing during the armed conflict of the 90s have been reinterred from the occupied territories of Abkhazia (4 military servants and 9 civilians).
Over 2000 Georgian citizens are missing as a result of the armed conflict in the 90s in Georgia and the August War 2008; the state policy embodies the commitment to determine their whereabouts.
The civil memorial service was as well attended by the Vice-Speaker, Giorgi Volski and MPs.
