The US closely monitors Mikheil Saakashvili’s case, said the US Department of State Spokesperson in response to the question about Georgia’s former president.

Matthew Miller was asked if the US supports the call of a group of 5 former U.S. Ambassadors, who issued a statement last week urging the Georgian Government to allow Mikheil Saakashvili to obtain life-saving medical treatment.

“I will just say we are monitoring Mr. Saakashvili’s case closely. We are very concerned about his health. As we’ve said publicly and privately to the Georgian Government many times, it is the government’s responsibility to provide the medical care he needs to ensure his human rights are respected. And we will continue to monitor this case very closely”, - he added.
