The Chairman of the Human Rights Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze, responds to the information that the member of the United National Movement Sopo Japaridze is starting a “Victory Campaign” and will meet population in the regions on behalf of Mikheil Saakashvili.
“He will have to respect the law, rules and order of our sovereign country. As for his efforts to launch an election campaign, he has negative attitudes towards a number of factions and wings of his party, including people who have left, who may have stayed, and will try to launch a new, different game in which he can offer something new to the public.
He will try to maintain focus on him, he will try to hide the vices that are characteristic of his political party, but I don’t think that this attempt will be successful, because the public knows very well that this political party does not really have any content.
According to Georgian legislation, a citizen of a foreign country is prohibited from participating in Georgian politics. They themselves do not know what their actions will be in the future, and I cannot assess this [whether the law is violated] in advance. Whatever it is, if it involves Saakashvili’s participation in Georgian politics, it will be a wrong act”, - said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
