Flu cases have doubled across Georgia

Seasonal viruses are active in the country. According to the doctors, flu cases have doubled across Georgia.

The Medical Director of the Iashvili Children’s Hospital, said that in the 49th calendar week of 2023, 16% of confirmed cases of flu had been reported, with the number rising to 27% two weeks later.

“The symptoms of the flu included temperature of 38C or higher, severe headache, joint and muscle ache and general weakness, with patients becoming drowsy and irritated and losing their appetite. The flu is contagious and dangerous for kids and adults. In cases with such symptoms, it’s better to stay at home”, - said Ivane Chkhaidze.

As he explained, the H1N1 and H1N3 are predominant viruses that primarily affect children.

“Another virus circulating in the country is rhinovirus, while coronavirus is less active. However, influenza activity will probably not be as high as it was in 2022-2023”, - added Chkhaidze.

He recommends controlling the temperature, drinking lots of fluids, and contacting the doctor if complications arise.
