The meeting in the High Council of Justice lasted for seven hours and was accompanied with confrontation. At the beginning of the session the Council members accused Nino Gvenetadze violating the agreed position regarding the amendments to the Law on Courts of General Jurisdiction adopted by the parliament.
The Council members say that the issue of judicial discipline was to be decided by the vote of 2/3and this has been agreed with Nino Gvenetadze; however these changes were not reflected in the package.
Nino Gvenetadze says that she has informed the authors of the project about the position of the members of the Council of Justice, but the final draft was prepared by the Ministry of Justice.
Nino Gvenetadze proposal envisaging the competition for appointing judges to 68 vacant posts failed.
This proposal was supported only by other from judges members , which turned out not to be insufficient. However, the Council adopted a decision to appoint seven judges to the Court of Appeal without open competition.
