"This day is significant for several reasons. The inauguration is set to take place in the historic hall of the Parliament of Georgia, the site where Georgia’s independence was declared and the first president took the oath of office.

This occasion is particularly significant as it marks the first inauguration of a president elected by the electoral college, signaling the implementation of constitutional reforms adopted in 2017.

The moment is historic for another reason: the sixth president will inherit a challenging legacy. Under Salome Zourabichvili, the presidency was discredited, becoming an instrument of division rather than unity and serving personal ambitions and foreign interests instead of the Georgian people.

Amid these challenges, Mikheil Kavelashvili faces the crucial task of restoring the presidency’s prestige and fulfilling the role envisioned in the Constitution.

I wish him success in this challenging mission, and I am confident that with the support of our people - evident in the 1,120,000 citizens who expressed their will on October 26 - he will succeed in returning dignity and significance to the institution of the presidency”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
