Up to 700,000 saplings, up to 20 km of new trails, and 4 new water wells - the "Tbilisi Urban Forest" restoration and development project is in its final stages. Visitors already have the opportunity to use fully renovated hiking and cycling trails spanning up to 45 km in length.

Evergreen and deciduous trees were planted across an area of up to 700 hectares. Work was carried out to restore the shrub and herbaceous cover. The Mayor of Tbilisi visited the site to inspect the progress of the project and symbolically planted a sapling in the area.

Greenery, clean air, and picnic spots - tourism infrastructure has also been developed for recreational purposes. Benches, viewpoints, rest pavilions, and shelters have been installed. The hillside offers panoramic views of the capital, while cabins that blend seamlessly into the landscape and terrain allow for the observation of rare and migratory birds.

The project is being implemented within the framework of a memorandum signed between the Tbilisi City Hall and the "Cartu" Foundation. The cost of the completed works is GEL 24 million, which is fully funded by the "Cartu" International Charity Foundation. Up to 52,000 dried trees were cut down in the area. Four new water wells and an irrigation system were set up, supplying water to an area of up to 200 hectares.

One of the significant outcomes of the project is that, after a long hiatus, the Colchian pheasant and chukar partridge have returned to the Tbilisi urban forest. A unique method is being used for the return and breeding of these birds in nature. As a result, citizens walking along the trails have the opportunity to see the birds in their natural habitat.

The project for the restoration of the Tbilisi urban forest landscape and the development of recreational infrastructure is being implemented by the "Development and Environment Foundation". The territory includes the areas surrounding Turtle Lake and Mtatsminda Park, and is bordered by the Okrokana settlement to the south. According to experts` assessments, the completed works will significantly improve the ecological condition of the city.
