Two individuals fined 1,500 and 4,000 GEL by court over hate speech

Trials in courts continue regarding facts identified by the Department for Combating Hate Speech. Today, the consideration of 15 cases is scheduled in various courts across the country.

In the morning, the Kutaisi City Court already deliberated on the case of Mediko Sakhelashvili, who insulted Irine Peradze on a social network. She apologized, after which the judge gave her a verbal warning. The judge also gave a verbal warning to Kakhaber Mikautadze.

Meanwhile, the Tbilisi City Court fined 2 individuals 1,500 and 4,000 GEL for using hate speech.

"An administrative offense report was drawn up against Irakli Ghoghoberidze based on the first part of Article 166 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. He insulted a citizen on a social network; consequently, the fact of the alleged offense was identified.

The mentioned individual admitted to the committed act, repented, and apologized, due to which the court issued a verbal warning to him and released him from liability.

An administrative offense report was drawn up against Nikoloz Darsania. He insulted the judge of the Tbilisi City Court, Giorgi Gelashvili, on a social network. He published an AI-processed photograph along with offensive words in a post on his personal public page, which was also followed by similar types of comments from other people. Mr. Nikoloz did not deny this fact and admitted to it, though he also explained that, on the contrary, he is proud of this action.It can be said that, according to the position of the individuals directly working on detecting facts of alleged offenses, such hate speech on social networks has relatively decreased", - said Salome Kiria, lawyer for the Interior Ministry.

Andro Guruli, a lawyer for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, spoke regarding the cases of Lasha Kilasonia and Kakhaber Pochkhua: "Regarding the fact of verbal insult against Eka Kupatadze on a social network, Lasha Kilasonia was found to be an offender by the decree of July 9. He was ordered to pay a fine of 3,000 GEL as a penalty.

Also, today the Tbilisi City Court reviewed the offense case of Kakhaber Pochkhua, who verbally insulted Rezo Kiknadze. This individual was also found to be an offender. The mentioned individual admitted to committing the offense, repented, apologized, and the court ordered him to pay a fine of 1,500 GEL".
