Our team has taken all necessary steps to lay the groundwork for a genuine partnership with the US - Levan Machavariani

Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Dream faction in the Parliament, responds to the letter from US President Donald Trump to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

"The [Joe] Biden administration did everything possible to damage Georgia-US relations. It was an administration in which, according to President Trump, the so-called "Deep State" wielded enormous influence. They targeted us using the same unfair and disreputable methods that Brussels employs against us today - lies, blackmail, threats, disinformation, double standards, and more.

The Georgian Government and the Trump administration hold broadly aligned political and ideological positions on a range of key issues, particularly with regard to state sovereignty and the perceived risks of external interference.

Our team has taken all necessary steps to lay the groundwork for a genuine partnership with the US:

---Given the above-mentioned approach, we were in confrontation with the administration that Mr. Trump refers to as an enemy;
---We openly supported Donald Trump’s election as president;
---There is complete alignment in terms of values and political world-view;
---We hold similar positions and send similar messages regarding state sovereignty;
---We have similar assessments of the Russia-Ukraine war;
---We share the same view regarding the problems of the Eurocracy - the grievances we have expressed towards Brussels were reflected almost word for word by the US in its National Security Strategy document;
---We have identical assessments of the risks of external interference;
---There is complete alignment in our assessment of the threats associated with NGOs;
---We have similar assessments regarding far-left ideology.

At every level, we have made it clear that we are ready to sit down with our American colleagues at any time and develop a concrete roadmap, with specific timelines and steps, that will reflect the interests of both sides.

Based on all of this, we remain optimistic that genuine friendship and partnership between Georgia and the US will begin", - writes Levan Machavariani on the social media.
