Prosecutor’s Office has arrested one person for violating privacy and stalking

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has arrested one person on charges of violating privacy and stalking.

The investigation conducted by the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regional Prosecutor’s Office established that the accused, using the WhatsApp application, obtained and illegally stored photo material depicting the private life of three victims, and sent the photo material depicting the private life of one of the victims to another person via Messenger. The accused also systematically illegally stalked the victim, moved near her home and established unwanted communication with her, as a result of which the victim suffered mental suffering and was forced to significantly change her lifestyle.

The employees of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Prosecutor’s Office arrested the accused on July 27 based on the judge’s ruling. He is charged under Part 1 of Article 157 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (illegal storage and dissemination of a secret of private life) and Subparagraph “d” of Part 2 of Article 151 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (stalking), which provides for up to 7 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The Prosecutor’s Office has already petitioned the court to impose imprisonment as a preventive measure on the detainee.
