Prime Minister of Georgia introduced the new Head of the State Security Service, Tamaz Borashvili, to the personnel of the State Security Service.

The Head of Government of Georgia thanked the employees of the State Security Service for their dedicated service and highlighted Tamaz Borashvili’s professional experience. Irakli Kobakhidze also wished success to former Head of the State Security Service Geka Geladze, who has been appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.

"The State Security Service is one of the key institutions entrusted with safeguarding our state interests and protecting our national security. Of course, each and every one of you makes an exceptionally important contribution to this effort and I would like to once again thank you for your dedicated service. I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to Geka Geladze for his service and for his worthy leadership of the State Security Service.

I would like to emphasize Geka Geladze’s personal qualities. He is not only an outstanding professional, but is distinguished, first and foremost, by his human qualities. He is an exceptionally conscientious person and I wish him every success.

Tamaz Borashvili is a career professional who has risen through the ranks within this system, which is of particular importance. When you have served in this field for over 20 years, you naturally accumulate exceptional knowledge and experience. This is precisely what will greatly assist the Government in further strengthening this institution.

Of course, every institution must continuously develop and this also applies to the State Security Service. Mr. Borashvili has extensive experience and has advanced consistently throughout his career. Such consistent and sustained professional advancement cannot be achieved without merit, exceptional qualities and professionalism. It was precisely these qualities that ultimately formed the basis of the team`s decision", - said the Prime Minister.

The former Head of the State Security Service also wished the newly-appointed Head success. Geka Geladze thanked the Prime Minister for his trust and support.

"Mr. Prime Minister, thank you very much for the support and trust you have shown me over the past years.

This support was reflected in our daily work and the achievements we made - whether in terms of structural and substantive improvements or strengthening the security component - were made possible thanks to it.

I would like to congratulate Tamaz Borashvili on his new position. As you may well be aware, this institution is one special family, with its own distinctive way of life and culture, and Tamaz comes from within this institution. He has worked here for many years and I am confident that he will lead it with great dignity and further strengthen the institution. It was a great honor for me to work alongside you and at the same time, it was a source of pride to lead this very strong institution", - said Geka Geladze.

Head of the State Security Service thanked the Prime Minister of Georgia and Parliament for the trust placed in him.

"I pledge that, with redoubled effort and together with this strong team, we will do everything possible to ensure the security of our country and strengthen our Service, so that we can better address the challenges our country faces on a daily basis.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the personnel. There is not a single person here whom I do not know. We have served our country’s security with dignity together for many years. I thank all of you for this - the entire team, which works tirelessly around the clock for the well-being of our country. I thank Geka for his dedicated service and wish you success in the new challenges ahead", - said Tamaz Borashvili.

The Parliament of Georgia today approved Tamaz Borashvili as Head of the State Security Service with 83 votes.
