Energy is one of the sectors whose smooth operation often goes unnoticed, but even a minor disruption is immediately felt across the country – Kvrivishvili

Energy is one of the sectors whose smooth operation often goes unnoticed, but even a minor disruption is immediately felt across the country. Georgian Economy Minister said this at the event marking Energy Workers` Day.

As she noted, energy is one of the sectors whose smooth operation often goes unnoticed, but even a minor disruption is immediately felt across the country.

"Your profession is not merely a sector-specific job. It is a responsibility for the country`s security, the continuity of economic activity and the daily lives of every family. That is why the work of energy professionals is particularly valuable. For Georgia, energy is not only one of the most important sectors of the economy. Energy means independence, security and economic strength.

We remember well what a Georgia with a weak energy sector meant. We remember a country where electricity shortages were a standard part of everyday life. Therefore, for us, energy security is not a theoretical goal; it is a national objective. Georgia must no longer be an energy-vulnerable country. Georgia must be an energy-strong, self-sufficient state of regional importance.

Today, I can say with confidence that we know where we are heading. We have a clear vision, a plan and an ambition whose scale corresponds to the real potential of Georgia`s energy capabilities. The first pillar of this vision is generation.

In 2026, construction of three hydropower plants and one wind project was completed. By the end of the year, construction of another hydropower plant, two wind projects and three solar projects will be completed", - said Mariam Kvrivishvili.
