The delegation of the Parliament of Georgia participated in the interparliamentary conference entitled "EU Enlargement: Strategic Agenda for the Future of Europe," held in Tirana and organised by the Parliament of Albania, with the participation of representatives of the European Affairs Committees of the parliaments of EU Member States and candidate countries.

The Deputy Chair of the EU Integration Committee and member of the Georgian parliamentary delegation, Tornike Paghava, addressed the conference, highlighting the importance of European unity. He stated that EU enlargement is not merely a technical and institutional process, but also an important instrument for strengthening peace and stability.

As Tornike Paghava noted, Georgia’s EU integration is a historic choice and demonstrates a firm commitment to a common European future. He also emphasised the importance of fulfilling the commitments undertaken by Georgia. Tornike Paghava spoke about the importance of maintaining dialogue between the EU and Georgia, noting that, amid the existing challenges, relations require more dialogue rather than isolation.

The conference was also addressed by Giorgi Chakvetadze, a member of the EU Integration Committee and First Deputy Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee.

He emphasised the role of parliaments and the importance of parliamentary dialogue in the EU integration process. According to Giorgi Chakvetadze, political differences and existing challenges should not become grounds for ending dialogue, while restoring trust and resuming full-fledged dialogue are in the common interest. Giorgi Chakvetadze also noted that European integration remains a strategic and constitutional objective for Georgia, while Georgia is ready to contribute to strengthening regional security, stability and resilience, as well as to developing connectivity across the wider Black Sea region.

Around 30 parliamentary delegations from EU Member States and candidate countries, as well as high-ranking representatives of EU institutions and the Albanian authorities, participated in the conference. The conference addressed the future of EU enlargement, the role of parliaments in the European integration process, and the importance of enlargement in strengthening peace and stability.
