Speaker of the Georgian Parliament said that the EU Ambassador Paweł Herczyński had refrained from condemning the October 4, 2025 attack on the Presidential Palace because doing so would undermine his claims that those involved in the violence had been arbitrarily detained.
"Yesterday marked 13 months since the storming of the Presidential Palace, and I once again called on him to condemn the attack. Once again, he avoided doing so. Every time, he resorts to vague, general statements, claiming that the European Union condemns violence wherever and however it occurs.
We are not interested in generalities; we want a specific answer: why will he not explicitly state that he condemns the attack on the Presidential Palace on October 4, 2025? He has never once uttered those words. And do you know why he has not condemned it? Because the moment he condemns this violence, he can no longer claim that those involved in it were arbitrarily detained.
To this day, Mr. Herczyński and Brussels remain enablers of violence in Georgia, justifying and protecting those responsible for the October 4 attack on the Presidential Palace.
Yesterday, we heard him declare that he would not tell us who he considers to have been arbitrarily detained. On the one hand, he calls on us to release those he describes as illegally detained, but when asked who they are, he does not provide a single name. Do you know why? If he were to name specific individuals, it would emerge, for example, that three people are currently serving sentences after throwing Molotov cocktails at a police officer and attempting to burn them alive.
If you ask for the name of even one of these three individuals, everyone would realise that Brussels is indeed acting as a protector of violence in Georgia today. That is why we must make this point clear: either Mr. Herczyński and Brussels provide a list of those they consider to have been arbitrarily detained, or they once again demonstrate that they are patrons of the perpetrators. Mr. Herczyński has repeatedly proven himself to be a patron of violent offenders.
He meets with them, finances them, dances to their tune, and we have seen him pay and hire people to verbally abuse the Georgian public", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
