"Our majoritarians will have to overcome 50% threshold," - the Prime Minister said at the the formal nomination of majoritarian candidates of the Georgian Dream to Tbilisi Sakrebulo. Giorgi Kvirikashvili was reading the speach written for him.
According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, each majoritarian will hav to overcome the 50% threshold to gain high legitimacy. The law does not have such a requirement.
The restriction of 50% barrier does not apply to majoritarian MP candidates and it only applies to majoritarian candidates participating in the parliamentary elections.
"This threshold has been brought by us and we have raised it because we want the MPs to have the highest legitimacy. It should be clear to everyone that we are not looking for easy ways to win. I believe that each of our candidates will gain trust, support, love and have impressive victory"-Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.
According to Article 161 of the Election Code of Georgia, which establishes the results of majoritarian elections to Tbilisi Sakrebulo, it is noted that the majoritarian candidate in Tbilisi will be elected in single mandate majoritarian election district if receives more votes that the other candidate. If two candidates participating in the elections have received equal votes, the candidate who submitted the application for registration in the relevant DEC earlier shall be deemed elected.
The ruling party has nominated Tbilisi majoritarian candidates. The leader of the Georgian Dream nominated 25 members to the City Council.
