The chairman of the Venice Commission, Gianni Buquicchio, made a statement and noted that dialogue is necessary.
The chairman of the Venice Commission expressed disappointment over the failure of negotiations and change of transition to the proportional system.
"The postponement of the introduction of proportional system by 2024 as well as the constant failure of Georgia`s political parties to receive revised Constitution based on consensus leads to frustration. A meeting scheduled for September 6 in Strasbourg was abolished. I would like to emphasize that it is very important that the Georgian parties hold up further negotiations. Involvement of the Venice Commission is not necessary in this process. We call on all parties to reach a broad consensus through a constructive dialogue on the text.
"We expect that in the nearest future we will receive the revised constitution from the Georgian authorities and we will publicize our opinion about it in a month and we also call on the Parliament of Georgia to to introduce changes before finally approving the revised project - Gianni Buquicchio stated.
