Within the frames of the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister of Georgia is holding bilateral meetings in New York. The Georgian delegation headed by the Prime Minister is already in New York.
On the first day of the visit Giorgi Kvirikashvili held talks with the European Council President Donald Tusk. On September 21, he will address the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly.
Tedo Japaridze, Georgia"s Prime Minister`s Advisor for Foreign Relations, said that the Prime Minister will speak about relations with Russia and territorial integrity.
Tomorrow Donald Trump will address the assembly session of the United States for the first time. Today he has already delivered a speech at one of the UN`s forum and criticized the work of the organization.
"The UN was founded for truly noble purposes. This includes the protection of human dignity and the pursuit of international peace. The United Nations has facilitated these goals in many ways, but in recent years, the United Nations has not reached its full potential due to bureaucracy and mismanagement, "-said Trump, who rebuked the United Nations for a ballooning budget.
The president pushed the UN to focus "more on people and less on bureaucracy" and to change "business as usual and not be beholden to ways of the past which were not working" while also suggesting that the United States was paying more than its fair share to keep the New York-based world body operational.
But he also complimented the steps the United Nations had taken in the early stages of the reform process and made no threats to withdraw his nation"s support.
