"I seriously do not know how this initiative can be answered," - the first deputy chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia Tamar Chugoshvili assessed the joint initiative of the President and the opposition.
President made a special statement a few minutes ago and noted that after the dialogue with the opposition, there was a complete consensus on some of the key issues concerning the constitution. According to the president, a joint position regarding constitutional amendments will be presented to the ruling team and the Venice Commission.
The president`s offer is called " not serious" in the ruling team. The ruling party claims that the majority of constitutional amendments are adopted because they have legitimacy from the people.
"I do not know how seriously you can answer this initiative, because it`s a new definition of consensus when a majority of those who make decisions and who have been chosen by the people must abstain from the process and somebody else who has no legitimacy should write something else, "- said Tamar Chugoshvili.
Giorgi Tugushi, member of the parliamentary faction "European Georgia-Movement for Freedom" notes that the new proposals for the draft constitution will be sent to the Venice Commission together with the president`s administration.
Salome Samadashvili, the deputy chairperson of the National Movement faction says that if the ruling party makes a unilateral decision on the constitution, then the pretext for political crisis will be created in the country.
