According to the Global Competitiveness Index, the independence of the judiciary in Georgia has deteriorated sharply and has dropped down with 24 positions in a list of 137 countries.
Tea Tsulukiani, the Minister of Justice refuses to comment on the issue.
Giorgi Mikautadze, the Secretary of the High Council of Justice of Georgia, says he is acquainted with the data, although it is not clear which data was used when making the report. According to him, the court is independent.
" Of course, I do not agree that the independence of the judiciary has worsened in the country,"- Giorgi Mikautadze said.
Not all members of the Supreme Council agree with this statement Some of them state that the research is important for both the High Council of Justice and in general for the Georgian authorities.
