Presentation of the Ombudsman`s new campaign "Society against Torture" has been held. Ucha Nanuashvili talked about the need of systemic changes. According to the Public Defender`s assessment, it is necessary to create an independent investigative body that will study the crimes committed by law enforcement officers.

Within the framework of the campaign, the Ombudsman"s Office will create a civil network of victims of ill-treatment by law enforcers.

"In the past three years no investigation has been launched on the fact of 60 cases launched at the demand of the Public Defender in the MIA and Prosecutor`s Office. The current situation indicates the serious shortcoming of the existing investigative system and the need for the root systematic change of this system. The real independent service should be established to investigate the offenses committed by law enforcement representatives of the country, "- Ucha Nanuashvili said.
