Russia has not paid a price for invasion in Georgia - book by the former US deputy Secretary of State

“Back to Containment: Dealing with Putin’s Regime” - in the book of the former US deputy Secretary of State David Kramer in which he assesses the developments following the August 2008 war. Kramer also speaks about errors that US administrations has made.

David Kramer describes all the events including the Kosovo Independence and the Bucharest summit that preceded the August war. The former deputy secretary of state believes that the mistake of the ,US administrations was that Russia was not punished for the August war, which led to Putin"s invasion into Ukraine.

Kramer also explained that Russia`s main irritation was NATO enlargement, which was reflected in the 2010 Russian military doctrine.

David Kramer notes that President Saakashvili did not act cautiously regarding Russian provocations.

The author of the book gives the US new administration a recommendation regarding the Russian containment strategy. He notes that Washington must demand Moscow to fulfill its ceasefire agreement in Georgia and Ukraine. Besides, sanctions should be imposed on Putin and his surroundings .
