Russia has punished Georgia for choosing the independence of the country - the statement was made by the President of Georgia in an interview with Dozhd TV. According to Giorgi Margvelashvili, Georgia should do everything to resolve the conflict peacefully.

"Russia has taken a step towards occupying Georgia. Russia has decided not only to occupy a part of Georgia but to declare these regions as independent states. This is a historical anomaly and injustice. We have to live in such a reality and we must continue to develop the country and try to solve everything in peaceful ways. We have been punished because we decided to be independent, "- Giorgi Margvelashvili said.

President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili also talked about Saakashvili`s administration and said that Mikheil Saakashvili created state structures that are still effective. Margvelashvili said that Saakashvili was able to defeat corruption in the country.

"As for Mikheil Saakashvili, he has actually defeated corruption, that is the fact that he has created state structures that are still effective, but it is also a fact that there were violations of the rights of citizens and mass media and the Georgian people reacted to these facts, "- said Georgian president.
