ISIL executes captive Jordanian pilot

The Islamic State has released a video on Tuesday, showing the execution of Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kassasbeh, who was captured by ISIL when his plane was shot down in Syria in December.

The video showed Kassasbeh dressed in an orange jumpsuit surrounded by ISIL fighters. It then cut to Kassasbeh standing inside a cage and then soaked with petrol, before a masked man used a torch to which ignited a trail of petrol leading to the cage and burning Kassasbeh alive.

The video sparked street protests in Jordan, calling for vengeance and pressuring Jordan"s usually neutral monarch towards more direct conflict ISIL.

The Jordanian military, a close ally in the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State, vowed “punishment and revenge” for the killing, which it said had probably been carried out in early January, before ISIL demanded a prisoner swap.

Early Wednesday, a government minister said Jordan has executed two prisoners, including  would-be Iraqi female suicide bomber Sajida l-Rishawi and Iraqi al-Qaeda member Ziad al-Karboli.
