Constitutional amendments - opposition does not attend discussion in parliament in protest

The opposition does not attend the general discussion of constitutional amendments in protest. The "European Georgia" and "National Movement" boycotts the discussion of the issues that should be changed in the constitution that has already been adopted.

At today"s meeting, 5 paragraphs are considered which have to be amended in the new constitution after the recommendations of the Venice Commission. The opposition considers unacceptable prohibition in the election blocs and transition to proportional electoral system only in 2024.

Deputy Chairperson of Parliament, member of the Faction "European Georgia - Movement for Freedom" Sergi Kapanadze criticizes the government for not taking into consideration the opinion of the people.

"We are not going to participate in this performance. They have a one-party constitution and they can change the way they want it, "- Kapanadze said.

Director of Liberal Academy Tbilisi, Lasha Tugushi thinks the transition to proportional system only in 2024 is a mistake .

"Why are we losing so much time, for me it is unclear today. I think this is a mistake and we should not let this mistake happen, "- Lasha Tughushi said.
