Unequal Media Environment and Corruption Risks - Opposition Calls on President to Veto Law on Broadcasting


The opposition once more criticizes the law of the broadcaster, recently adopted by parliament. The party leaders say that the law creates unequal conditions for media and calls on the president to veto it.

"We all expect that the president will use the right of veto. This is a very bad law which prevents media development, puts media in unequal conditions. They have inadequately large financing- Georgian public Broadcaster does not need 50 million GEL," - Roman Gotsiridze says.

European Georgia sees a threat of corruption in addition to creating unequal media environment.

"This law damages free media because it affects the free media advertising market and secondly, it creates a trend and conditions to increase corruption in the public broadcaster. , "Sergo Ratiani says.
