Law on Broadcaster - whether President will use veto, will be known today

The decision of the President of Georgia regarding the Law on Broadcasting will be known today. Giorgi Margvelashvili"s 10-day term expires today.

The President has to adopt a draft bill adopted by the Parliament by three hearings or to veto it and return with the motivated remarks back to the legislative body.

The opposition calls on the president to use veto.

"It is unthinkable that the President does not use veto right now. Because this law is very damaging to the interests of private TV companies, it prevents the development of free speech in Georgia and at the same time this law is bad for the development of the GPB, "said Roman Gotsiridze, chairperson of the parliamentary faction" National Movement ".

In case of enactment of the law, members of "European Georgia" speak about the risks of corruption and protectionism.

"The government has adopted a law that encourages corruption and protectionism and restricts free media advertising market," said Sergo Ratiani.

In case of use of veto, the parliamentary majority is ready to overcome it, but before the decision is taken, it will convene for discussion.

"We are in anticipation of course, as in all other cases, the main thing is to find out what the President presents. wherther it will be motivated or it will not be motivated. Only after this we will decide whether we take the issue nto consideration, "said Anri Okhanashvili.

According to the draft law, the Public Broadcaster"s authority will be expanded - along with other changes, it is possible to post commercial advertisements on weekdays.
