Mikheil Saakashvili sentenced to home arrest - former governor of Odessa announces large-scale protests


The Kiev Court of Appeal sentenced Mikheil Saakashvili to home arrest. The Prosecutor"s Office requested 24-hour home arrest for Saakashvili, but the court of appeals, after a noisy discussions, satisfied the prosecution"s request only partially .

According to the Court"s decision, Saakashvili had been prohibited to leave his residence in Kiev from 10:00 am to 07:00. The judge"s speech was followed by noise and protest shouting in the hall.

Mikheil Saakashvili also addressed the activists in the hall and explained the reasons for today"s decision. The ex-president accused the government of persecuting the opponents and announced large-scale protests.

In addition to the activists , Rada MPs and Yulia Tymoshenko.came to the Court to support Mikheil Saakashvili

Tensions at the session were caused by the statement of the prosecutor who said that the evidence found in Saakashvili"s apartment was lost in the car by which Mikheil Saakashvili was taken to the isolator.
