Chairperson of the Government of Adjara and Minister of Environment Protection get into a big scandal, the reason is Bidzina Ivanishvili"s trees - in the Chakvi forest, dozens of trees have been cut down and 6 tree were dug out so that the permit was not issued.

According to the decree dated by January 18, which was signed by the Chairman of the Government of Adjara, the government sold 6 hundred year -old trees for 19 500 GEL, ie Bidzina Ivanishvili paid 3250 GEL per one.

According to the documents that the Batumili newspaper received from the Government of Adjara as a result of long-term correspondence, it is clear that the trees have been dug out first and the permit was issued afterwards.

Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Levan Davitashvili, notes that if trees have been cut illegally, the legal response will follow. Chairman of Ajara government, Zurab Pataridze, did not appear to media.

The opposition argues that the Adjara government and the Ministry of Environmental Protection have violated the law and there are signs of criminal offense.

Local NGOs also slam the government fot the damage inflicted to the unique landscape of Adjara. They say that the ecosystem is in an alarming situation in the region.
