The body of Archil Tatunashvili, who was killed in Tskhinvali prison, returned home after 26 days. Whether Archil Tutunashvili was a victim of torture, the main question should now be answered by the Georgian judicial expertise.
According to preliminary data, there are multiple injuries on the body of Archil Tatunashvili, indicating the presumable trace of torture, - it is said in the statement, released by the Center EMPATHY, which was involved in the examination of Archil Tatunashvili’s body at the National Forensics Bureau.
“The examination of Archil Tatunashvili’s body was conducted on March 20-21 at Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau. Levan Toidze, the forensic expert of the rehabilitation center for victims of torture, was involved in the examination process. According to the decree of the Prosecutor’s Office, based on preliminary data, there are multiple injuries on the body of Archil Tatunashvili, indicating the presumable trace of torture. The experts of the Center EMPATHY consider it necessary to conduct a complex-commissioned expertise in accordance with international standards,” – the statement reads.
Besides family members, several people attended transfer of Archil Tatunashvili"s body. Among them was journalist Lasha Berulava, who says that the mother was the first to see the trace of torture on the body of a soldier who was killed in Tskhinvali prison.
Lasha Berulava took several photos of Archil Tutunashvili"s body. The journalist says that there are suspicious circumstance indicating to the attempts to cover the traces of the brutal crime by means of surgical intervention.
Archil Tatunashvili"s body was transferred to Tsilkani village after the corpse underwent examination.
