Georgian sailor who spent nearly three years in Libya prison is in Georgia. Soslan Kakabadze was met by his family members, representatives of the Consular Department, representatives of Adjara government and Maritime Transport Agency at Batumi International Airport. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the trial of Soslan Kakabadze"s case was delayed due to the heavy military-political crisis in Libya. The release of Soslan Kakabadze, who served as a chef on a ship sailing under the flag of Tongo, was preceded by the visit of Ambassador of Georgia to Egypt in Libya.
Soslan Kakabadze and his family members thanked the Government of Georgia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for their involvement and efforts.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has conducted an intensive work to free the Georgian citizen, using all legal and diplomatic mechanisms - involving foreign partners and diplomatic corps accredited in Libya. The release of Soslan Kakabadze was preceded by the visit of Georgian Ambassador Alexandre Nalbandov to Libya and his meetings with the Libyan authorities”, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
