Rustaveli avenue in Batumi has been blocked for two hours already, the family members and relatives of 29-year-old Maya Verdzadze are holding a protest rally.

Verdzadze died after surgery this morning. Her relatives accused the hospital doctors of incompetence.

The pregnant woman was brought to Batumi maternity hospital because of high blood pressure a few days ago. According to relatives, despite their requests, a Caesarean section was not conducted. Several days later, the patient was operated on.

The infant was born dead and the woman was transported to Batumi Referral Hospital.
