The Prosecutor"s Office released a statement on the special operation in Pankisi Gorge on December 26, 2018, during which Temirlan Machalikashvili was killed. According to the investigative department, the prosecutor"s office is conducting an investigation on the facts of abuse of power, using firearms, weapons, during the special operation in the village of Duisi in Akhmeta district.
The statement released by the agency indicates that there were many investigative actions taken on the case. Within the scope of investigation the family members and neighbors of Temirlan Machalikashvili were interviewed.
"At this stage, a number of investigative and procedural actions have been conducted, including: the scene of the accident and important items for the investigation have been taken, judicial and clinical (genetic, ballistic, traction) examinations have been conducted.
"Investigation has questioned a number of individuals, including members of the family of Temirlan Machalikashvili, neighbors, and all persons participating in the investigative action (employees of the State Security Service).
"In addition, at the request of Temirlan Machalikashvili`s family and their lawyers , they and their experts were invited for direct participation of a number of investigative steps.
"At the same time, the court has appointed the medical expertise to determine whether the medical aid for Temirlan Machalikashvili was timely and adequate , which has not been completed yet .
"Currently, all the necessary and recruiting investigative activities are still intensively conducted in the case, but the investigation is at the final stage and the final decision will be made within the next 2 months," the statement reads.
