Zviad Kuprava has been sentenced to nine months in prison. The "Democratic Initiative of Georgia" appealed the decision to the Constitutional Court, where a substantial hearing was held today.
According to NGOs, this article of the Criminal Code contradicts the constitutional right of speech and expression.
"This provision is very vague, it contradicts the freedom of speech and expression," - said Eduard Marikashvili, a spokesman for the "Georgian Democratic Initiative."
According to Qristine Kuprava, the norm is legitimate and it protects the authority of the judiciary and the administration of justice.
"It is about safeguarding the authority of the judiciary and ensuring the rights of the administration of justice,” - said Qristine Kuprava.
Zviad Kuprava was found guilty by the court and sentenced to nine months in prison.
