Twelve years have passed since the November 2007.
On 7 November a series of anti-government protests took place across Georgia and ended with protesters being dispersed by police who used tear gas and water cannons. Hundreds of people were taken to hospital when riot police dispersed thousands of protesters in various parts of Tbilisi.
Also on 7 November, riot police attacked Imedi TV while a news programme was being broadcast live on air. The broadcaster was subsequently switched off.
In response to the crisis, President Mikheil Saakashvili announced early presidential elections and a referendum in the country in January 2008.
