Guenther Baechler calls on the the government to react to the existing problems

As Swiss Ambassador to Georgia Günther Bächler has told reporters before holding a meeting with Tina Khidasheli and Gigla Agulashvili, potential problems with corruption are very serious, and he says this as a friend of Georgia.

“We really fight hard for investments, for development. I personally work every day to bring investors here, and that’s why I agreed to get together with the government to solve problem. I see there are reforms necessary in some institutions, such as judiciary and financial ones. Then, I think, we will have a very favorable environment for investors,”- Bächler said.

According to him, he knows about foreign investors’ concern but the issue should be discussed by corresponding agencies.

“I don’t think it is up to me to discuss this. I am not a judge. I do not think I can raise this issue. Responsible government and institutions will deal with it in a proper way, which is my goal,”- the Swiss Ambassador said.

According to him, the government is interested in creating a safe environment for investors and they do their best for it.

Several weeks ago, Günther Bächler said in his interview with the Financial publication that foreign investors face serious problems in Georgia. According to him, there are unexpected tax problems and fines in Georgia which represent risks for foreign investors.

Baechler also had meetings in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Companies that had problems with the Revenue Department, said that it was necessary to amend the legislation.
