Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani met with Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović.
As the Minister of Foreign Affairs stated at a joint press conference, Georgia will take over the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers 20 years after joining the Council of Europe.
Zalkaliani also said that the Georgian side has set priorities and a 6-month calendar to be implemented during the presidency.
"It is a great honor for me to host Secretary General of the Council of Europe. I am pleased that this is Marija Pejčinović’s first visit to Georgia as the Secretary General and it is linked to our forthcoming chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Georgia will take over the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers 20 years after joining the Organization for the first time this year and will chair the Committee of Ministers from November 27 to six months.
It should be noted that the presidency is a great responsibility for Georgia and at the same time gives us the opportunity to work as a presidency to overcome the challenges facing the organization and to promote the organization"s core values, human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
We have created the priorities of the Chair and a 6-month calendar for various events and conferences under the Chairmanship. These priorities will be announced a few days before the beginning of the chairmanship", - said Zalkaliani.
