Levan Izoria appointed as the Secretary of Georgia’s National Security Council

Giorgi Gakharia led the National Security Council Meeting. Duties of a Secretary of the National Security Council have been entrusted to Levan Izoria, Head of Intelligence Service of Georgia.

As the Prime Minister noted, the coordinated work towards security has today critical importance.

"It is the most important function, especially in the view of coordination. Nowadays, security of this country is of critical importance. We will otherwise fail to develop economy, tourism, education and culture. Overall, discussion about the future of the country will otherwise be quite conditional. Thus, coordinated work towards security is of critical importance”, - added Gakharia.

Challenges faced by the country in terms of security and development of events within the region were discussed at the meeting. Particular attention was paid to the issue of critical infrastructure and challenges faced by occupied territories of the country.

In the opinion of the Head of Government of Georgia, prime challenge of the national security is occupation and it is most critical and painful to the population living along the occupation line: “It is what we and our citizens are thinking of every single day. This challenge is most critical for every citizen, especially those living along and on both sides of the occupation line”.

Head of Government of Georgia named the cyber-security to be one of the most significant challenges within the context: “Cyber-security gets most important in our region and especially on the background of those challenges that have been experienced by our country a few days ago, when our public institutions and some representatives of the private sector were challenged”.
