“We continue making efforts for the opening of checkpoints that is very important since the humanitarian situation across dividing line is reflected on the political situation”, - said Carl Hartzell, the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia.
According to him, the international community condemned the illegal detention of the Georgian doctor.
“We consider Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili as being the victim of the hard situation along the dividing line. We are involved in the negotiations that aim at the fast release of the doctor. We also continue to pressure them in order to open checkpoints. Their opening is important because of the humanitarian and political situation there. Our Special Representative is engaged in active negotiations, including with representatives of the occupation regime”, - said Hartsell.
Vazha Gaprindashvili, who was illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near the occupation line with Akhalgori Municipality, was sent to two-month pretrial detention, on November 15.
