The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia during the conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe talked about the importance of diaspora.
According to Archil Talakvadze, diaspora care was defined as one of the constitutional functions of the Georgian state.
"We need to work together to strengthen the ties between the Georgian diaspora and Georgia. Diaspora has a special role in the development of country’s cultural, economic, scientific, and educational spheres.
Our compatriots are teaching their children in Georgian, hosting as Georgians, and praying in Georgian churches and monasteries. We understand the importance of these ties. The Georgian state had committed itself to maintain and develop ties with its compatriots living abroad, and the care about diaspora has become a constitutional function. The ongoing work of diaspora organizations can make a significant contribution to Georgia’s European integration process”, - concluded the Head of the Parliament.
A conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is underway in Tbilisi, at the Biltmore Hotel.
