Pope Francis has sent a letter to Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II and commemorated the Patriarch"s hospitality during his visit to Georgia three years ago.
In the letter Pope Francis invites Ilia II and invited him to the Vatican.
“I would like to express my desire – to meet with you again next year. 40 years have passed since your first historical visit to Vatican. Appropriate events are scheduled to be held on the occasion of this date and we want the quire of the Patriarchate of Georgia and Sistine Chapel of Vatican to take part in it.
It would be wonderful if your Holiness attended these events, whose soul-stirring church music is worthy of recognition and appreciation.
It is so nice when brothers live together. I said these words 3 years ago in Svetitskhoveli Cathedral standing next to you. I recall that unforgettable visit to the wonderful land of Georgia.
I express gratitude to the Lord that give me the opportunity to know you and hold your arms.
I am looking forward to meeting with you.
Dear brother, our meeting could inspire many people who would be interested in the spiritual wealth of Georgia, Georgian art, culture and civilization which the country created throughout the centuries-long history with strong faith that is confirmed with Christian courage at times of many misfortunes.
I pray for you and your health”, - reads the letter.
